Eastone material guide

Stone Care & Natural Variation

Natural stone is shaped by time, not repetition. Its variation is the beginning of its character.

No two pieces are the same.

Every Eastone object is cut from natural stone. Veining, mineral movement, pores, fossils, tonal shifts and small surface variations are inherent to the material. They are not defects; they are the details that make each piece singular.

Product photography, samples and screen settings can only offer an indication. Please expect your piece to carry its own pattern and character.

The marks are part of the story.

Natural pores, veins and tonal shifts are not imperfections to erase. They are the quiet evidence of a material shaped over time.

A note on natural material

We select and finish every piece with care. Natural variation does not affect the function or quality of an item when it meets the agreed product specification. If a particular tone, vein or finish is important to your project, please contact us before placing an order.

The beauty is in the variation

Texture, tone and mineral movement are never repeated.

From the open pores of travertine to the intricate veining of marble, each material responds differently to light and use. These features are the evidence of real stone, thoughtfully selected and hand finished for your home.

01

Veining & tone

Colour and veining vary from piece to piece, even within the same stone type. Lighter stones may show warmer or cooler undertones; darker stones can reveal unexpected mineral movement.

02

Pores & texture

Travertine and other natural stones may contain small pores, pits or fossil marks. These are part of the surface, not a flaw to be filled or hidden.

03

Hand finishing

Each object is hand finished. Minor dimensional variation can occur; the product page specification and the overall visual balance of the piece remain our reference.

Everyday care

Do

  • Wipe gently with a soft, damp cloth and dry immediately.
  • Use coasters, felt pads and trays beneath objects that may scratch or release moisture.
  • Blot spills straight away rather than rubbing them into the surface.
  • Keep stone objects in a dry, stable environment away from prolonged standing water.
  • Lift rather than drag the object when moving it.
Protect the finish

Avoid

  • Acidic liquids including vinegar, citrus, wine and cleaning products containing acids.
  • Oils, strongly coloured liquids, perfumes and cosmetics left on unprotected porous stone.
  • Abrasive pads, bleach, harsh detergents and all-purpose household cleaners.
  • Sudden temperature changes, direct high heat and sharp or heavy impacts.
  • Placing food directly on an item unless the product description explicitly states it is suitable.
Will my piece look exactly like the product photo?

No. The photo represents the overall material and design, but the veins, pores, tone and mineral markings on your piece will be unique. This is the nature of genuine stone.

Is natural variation considered a defect?

No. Variation in colour, veining, porosity and texture is an expected characteristic of natural stone. We assess quality against the product specification and functional finish, not against identical repetition.

What should I do if my order arrives damaged?

Please retain the packaging, take clear photographs of the item and outer carton, and contact Eastone as soon as possible with your order number. Do not dispose of damaged packaging until we have reviewed the case.

Can I use Eastone stone objects in a bathroom or kitchen?

Many objects work beautifully in dry bathroom, vanity and kitchen settings. However, natural stone is not maintenance-free. Avoid prolonged water exposure and staining liquids, and follow the care guidance above.

Can I request a particular stone pattern?

For trade, custom or project enquiries, we can discuss material preferences and available options before production. Exact vein matching cannot be guaranteed unless expressly agreed in a written specification.

Made to be lived with.

With considered everyday care, natural stone develops a quiet, enduring presence. If you have a question about a specific material or piece, our team is here to help.
